Welcome to the wonderful world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. Its going to be great!
You Are Fit Enough
Most commonly people will be concerned about being too old, too small, or out-of-shape. None of these should be a concern as long as a doctor has signed you off to exercise for general fitness work. If you have any additional concerns, declare them to your instructor and on the registration form.
Our gym has people of all shapes and sizes training, and the number-one thing we hear the most is that they wished they hadn’t worried about this and started sooner.
Our focus is towards a safe environment and the application of fundamental techniques that can be learned and performed by everyone. While various attributes like size, strength, and speed will always be a factor, we want to minimize this as much as possible through precise and economic movement.
Don’t Worry About the Gear
All you’ll need to start is something comfortable to wear (shorts, yoga pants, t-shirt) and maybe a water bottle.
If you then decide a few sessions in that this is for you, we have an in-house shop for anything else you might need.
Besides that, make sure to remove all jewelry before training to prevent any injuries, and to uphold reasonable levels of personal hygiene (bathing, brushing teeth, trimming nails).
Be Honest About Your Experience Level
This isn’t a test or a job interview – you’re only doing yourself a disservice if you exagerrate your experience level.
We tailor our classes to the students that attend them. Your answer dictates what we expect from you right off the bat and, if inaccurate, you may be expected to know things that you don’t, which only makes the learning experience more difficult and frustrating.
It’s completely fine if you have no experience at all, we’re all here to learn and grow.
We’re A Members-Only Club
We don’t employ a receptionist, because it’s an unecessary cost that would be then passed down to you, the practitioner, and we don’t do walk-ins
If you come to a class but aren’t already a member or haven’t come to some alternate arrangement with a staff member, you will be turned away.
Our coaches don’t want to be distracted by questions, knocks on the door, or people hanign around who we don’t know. It’s not fair on our students.
Getting Enrolled
Fill in the contact form and let us know what you’re looking for. We can then tell you if we’ll be able to help you. We’ll then let you know what classes we offer and arrange for you to come down.
We don’t publish our timetable on the website as it unfortunately results in people coming down of their own accord without prior contact. As mentioned before, this is something we want to avoid.
Coming Down For A Class
For your first class, aim to get here 15 minutes early. That way you can make sure you’re here on time and ready to start. If you get lost, contact us and we’ll guide to the right place. Do note, however, that we do not answer calls once class has begun.
We’ll require you to fill in a registration form and you’ll be able to meet the people that you’ll be training with.
