We have one of the very few third-degree black belts in the U.K. certified by the greatest Jiu Jitsu practitioner of all-time, 9th Degree Red Belt Rickson Gracie. Glyn Powditch is in his 11th year as a BJJ black belt.
The only 3rd degree BJJ Blackbelt in the area, Glyn Powditch has trained and more importantly coached Brazilian Jiu Jitsu all over the world. Glyn is also assisted by Pete Joyce and Joe Borek, both SBG Black Belts. Pete has grappled for over 25 years. Glyn and Pete have grappled and struck each other since being blue belts.
Glyn’s training has taken him from California to Korea. Glyn is a regular contributor to SBG University, the leading online instructional for BJJ and MMA and watches hours per week of the latest material by the likes of Matt Thornton, Henry Akins, Rickson Gracie, John Danaher, Ryron and Rener Gracie, John Frankl, etc. Coaching is what we do at SBG, as well as, if not better, than anywhere else. Recent examples of this commitment to improving as an athlete and coaching experience include:
- Manchester, England. Glyn selected by Casey Jones and Matt Inman to coach a session to approx 100, including 6 black belts, and multiple UFC veterans at the SBG UK Camp.
- Dublin, Ireland. John Kavanagh, Head Coach of Conor McGregor et al, invited Glyn to coach at the SBG Europe Camp again.
- Gracie Barra Oval. Took private with Eduardo Carriello, 4th Degree and one of my first BJJ coaches.
- Athens, Georgia, USA – Glyn coached 2 sessions to approx 150 SBG athletes and over 10 blackbelts, including the opening session, at the SBG East Coast Camp at the world renowned SBG Athens AKA Hardcore Gym.
- San Jose, Pleasanton, and Turlock, California. Glyn trained at 3 Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu academies for 2 weeks with world renowned Judo, BJJ and MMA coach Dave Camarillo.
- Pangyo, South Korea. Coached sessions and trained at the John Frankl gym for 3 months. Walked and ran for over an hour in freezing conditions being ignored by Korean taxi drivers to the outskirts of Seoul only to arrive 10 mins before the end of coach Frankl’s class. Drank lots of beer after with Coach Frankl.
- Trained at SBG Global Headquarters, Portland Oregon with Matt Thornton, Rick Davison, etc and attended Rickson Gracie Seminar. Trained at Patrick Bittan (6th Dan) Academy in Paris, at several Roberto Traven Academy’s in Atlanta Georgia, at SBG Buford with Phillipe Gentry, and with the Singer Bros at SBG Athens. Jason Tan invited me to take the class at SBG Liverpool / MMA Academy for his MMA team.
- Also attended multiple other seminars such as Matt Thornton, Casey Jones, Dave Camarillo, 10th Planet Black Belts Nathan Orchard and Phil Schwartz.
- Sparred with most of the above. It was brutal but fun. Over the past 15 years I’ve also trained at Alliance New York, Alliance Atlanta, SBG Rochdale, Gracie Barra London Oval, Ze Marcellos, etc.
- Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blackbelt awarded by Karl Tanswell in 2013 after over 10 years of BJJ training.
- Authorised by the world renowned SBG MMA & BJJ Organisation to coach striking, clinch, and ground
